The Americans with disabilities act (ADA) has required certain adjustments on the part of businesses, some of which have had security implications. One of the most controversial and misunderstood issues has been how employers must treat employees or job candidates with mental disabilities. The Americans With Disabilities Act Handbook provides comprehensive coverage of the ADA's employment, commercial facilities, and public accommodations provisions as well as coverage of the transportation, communication, and federal, local, and state government requirements.

General Information. The Americans with Disabilities Act of (ADA), patterned after Section , also protects qualified persons with disabilities from discrimination in many areas of postsecondary education including admission, academics and r, the ADA applies to all postsecondary educational programs even if such programs do not receive federal financial assistance.   The diagnostic criteria for mental disorders are summarized from the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental .

Americans with Disabilities Act, U.S. civil-rights law, enacted , that forbids discrimination of various sorts against persons with physical or mental handicaps. Its primary emphasis is on enabling these persons to enter the job market and remain employed, but it also outlaws most physical barriers in public accommodations, transportation, telecommunications, and government services. The ADA further defines mental impairment to include any mental or psychological disorders such as emotional or mental illness. The EEOC guidelines indicate that the current edition of the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) may be used as guidance for identifying these disorders.
